North East Angler - 62cm Bass on Bucktail Jig in Northumberland

Photo of North East Angler landed 62cm Bass on Bucktail Jig in Northumberland.

I like to banter with any locals that I meet along the coast, especially anyone fishing for bass on lures in the North East, mainly in my home turf of Northumberland.

Many have a "tail" of woe, stating that it's their 2nd or 3rd season, and have yet to land a bass on lures, yet they stubbornly persist, focused on the quest!

The lad in this photo is Michael, and he has a different account than most! He started his lure fishing for bass around the early summer of 2024, using a variety of lures.

Around that time, we were finalising the development of the Northumberland Bass Addict bucktail jigs and then the NBA Sandeel and he expressed a desire to use them along the Northumberland coast. He is persuasive, so I gifted him a few bucktail jigs that had been used in the development testing.

This is the content of the email sent to me recently; it's his account:

"An unforgettable first bass! In the dark early hours of an August morning in Northumberland, Summer 2024, just an hour after high tide, I decided to try my luck at a mark where I was told bass were never caught. It was an easily accessible spot with little walking involved, making what was to follow all the more surprising!

Armed with my Favourite Cobalt bass rod, Shimano Miravel, and a Bucktail Jig from Northumberland Bass Addict, I added the Enticer-Eel Trailer as recommended, then cast out into the darkness with hope but little expectation.

Then came the strike—sudden and powerful. The fish ran hard, peeling the braided line even after I adjusted the drag twice. Every surge was a battle, but I managed to guide it through the medium-sized surf and finally land it.

At 62cm and 5.3lb, it was a stunning catch, and inside, I found it had been feasting on sandeels! Proof that sometimes, going against the grain pays off!"

This is a dream catch for anyone! So well done, lad!
